Synopsis

Summary

Su Qing Qian is the legitimate daughter of the prime minster Su. When the story begins she was in love with the ninth prince, the fiancé of her little sister. When the ninth prince and the emperor came to visit Su manor, Su Qing Qian committed suicide. That’s when Liu Li from the future went into Su Qing Qian’s body. She is infamous for being shameless and trying to seduce her brother-in-law.

When Liu Li went into the body, she entered the palace because the empress dowager liked her. There she got the empress dowager’s trust and was sent to serve the emperor as his personal servant. The emperor hates Su Qing Qian because of her being shameless and kept pestering his little ninth brother. So, he is always on guard and thinks that Su Qing Qian is acting since her behavior changed.

One time when they went on an incognito trip to investigate, someone sent killers after them. There they got separated from the imperial guards. After they lived a few days with each other, they fell in love, although the emperor doesn’t know he is in love. But after they returned to the palace, everything went back to how it was before. This made Su Qing Qian thinks that she is the only one who likes him and she also thinks that his true love is her father’s adopted daughter Zhu Yian. Zhu Yian has been by his side for many years and he once said that he will only let her have his children, making Su Qing Qian thinks that Zhu Yian is his true love.

Su Qing Qian will also meet the prince of another country who will fall in love with her. She doesn’t know that she is just a pawn and believed him to be a friend. While using her, he fell in love with her. His biggest regret is sending her to the emperor’s side. Su Qing Qian and the emperor will have some misunderstanding and palace conflict. But it’s a happy ending.

Review:

I have a love hate relationship with this book. I listened to the first few audiobook chapters and then stopped because I was used to strong females when they time travel. Not that I’m saying she is weak, but she is weaker than the one’s I’m accustomed to. At least the first half of the book, she was too weak for my taste. Everything she did revolved around her love. She didn’t think for herself.

A few weeks later, after I finished listening to other books and didn’t have any good books to listen to, I decided to give it another try. With great difficulty I passed the first few chapters. After that it got better and better.  I liked the chapters when they were alone after they got away from the killers. After they went back to the palace, there were many times, I wanted to throw the book to the wall (but couldn’t since I was listening on my laptop/phone 🙁 ). I was thinking: woman can you not be more egoistic? Take some action! It was so frustrating. I really don’t know what kept me going. That’s the strange thing about this book. Even if it’s frustrating, it’s addicting. If it was any other book, I would have abandoned it long time ago. I just couldn’t with this book. So I continued my journey. It got better after he realized how important she is to him. I loved the book after that so much and cried many times.

So I hated the first part of the book. The male lead was an asshole; the female lead was a too……non egoistic. I didn’t like either of them. After the first part, the male lead began to take action because he realized his love for her. Not that I fell in love with him because he left a too bad impression on me the first half of the book. But he became more likeable and his sacrifice for her was really touching. The female lead also got more likeable. In the first half she was practically doing everything while putting the male lead in the first place. At the second half she finally gave up on him after too many disappointments. When she began to ignore him, I was so happy.

I don’t know if I should or shouldn’t recommend this book. It isn’t that good of a book. Although after listening to it once, I listened to again (I must be crazy). It’s not on my top 5, but if you like heart wrenching, I mean really heart wrenching books, this is something for you. I cried about three times because of this book. I must say the epilogue is very nice.
