Chu Wang Fei review

The most amazing Chinese book that have ever read. Plot wise it was intriguing, romance wise it was good, comedy wise it was also good. What more can I ask? This book is one of the best quality book, I’ve ever read. All is well thought out. The author can be a great strategist in the reign of emperors. She’s amazing. I wonder how she can think of all that. 387 chapters didn’t feel that long. Actually they felt really short. After listening to the audio book, I read the remaining chapters. I can’t part from it. It’s like something tugging at my heart, making me unable to forget it. The only complain I have is that the male lead appeared once in chapter 2 or 3 and then appeared again in chapter 40 or so. Although I was really into Yun Qian Meng’s fight with the concubine, I wanted to read about the male lead at least once in those 40 chapters.

At first, I thought Chen Wang was the male lead, because most book will let the male lead reject the female lead and then they’ll fall in love etc…Another point that made me mistake him as the male lead is that Chu Fei Yang was a prime minister at the beginning of the book. He wasn’t a Wang Ye. So I shipped the wrong guy for 40 chapters before I realized my mistake. That’s so why I can’t really hate Chen Wang. Now I went back to the right ship, but still feel a little sad for Chen Wang. Why didn’t you take the precious pearl when you had the chance?

What made this book more special is that unlike most time travel, it doesn’t mention the future very much. Sometime Yun Qian Meng will compare her life of the future, but that’s it. For the first 200 chapters I didn’t feel that she came from the future. The big things she did was to help invent the gun and the remedy against small pox. But she let other people take her credit.

Nobody knew it was her. That’s what made her special, she doesn’t search for fame and doesn’t ask for anything aside from a simple and save life. .

Summary
The story is about Yuan Qian Meng. On the first chapter Yun Chen Meng was being rejected by Chen Wang, Jiang Mu Chen, the younger brother of the current emperor. She slammed her head on the pillar. When she woke up, she was someone from the future in Yun Qian Meng’s body. The emperor, Yu Qian Di agreed to cancel the engagement between them. Since then Yun Qian Meng was being looked down by the society. A woman being rejected probably won’t be able to marry anymore. Beside the one who rejected her is the powerful Chen Wang. Who’ll dare to go ask for her hand?

The first forty chapters were about Yun Chen Meng dealing with the most favorite concubine of her father, Su Qing. After defeating the concubine, the story turned more interesting with the male lead appearing. She dealt with the society for laughing at her and she gained the admiration of many people, especially Chen Wang, Chu Fei Yang and Rong Yun He. The later is doomed to be her close friend only. As you may expect Chu Fei Yang and Chen Mu Chen will fight for Yun Qian Meng. Chu Wang Fei is the title, so Chu Fei Yang won. After she married Chu Fei Yang, they turned into a power couple, dealing with all their enemies.

Characters:
Yun Qian Meng/ Chu furen/ Chu Wang Fei: the main character of the book. Her mother died when she was three months old. When the story started she was 16, 22 in the future. She was neglected by her father and bullied by Su Qing, until she turned into the strong Yun Qian Meng. She’s a cop in the future and landed here because she was shot. She is wise, strong and cunning. She is the niece of the dowager empress, the granddaughter of Fu Guo Gong Fu and the daughter of the right prime minister. With such a complicated identity, her marriage was arranged since birth.

Although she doesn’t see life as something unimportant, she’ll make her enemies’ life a hell. You will be sorry for ever crossing her. Chu Fei Yang will sometimes say that her fox tail is appearing again. I felt that she fell really in love with Chu Fei Yang after they married each other. Before she was so distrusting of everyone. When she made up her mind to trust him, she slowly began to fall in love with him. She’s also a great cook.

Chu Fei Yang/ Chu Xiang/ Chu Wang: The lead of the book. His mother died while giving birth and his father abandoned him, because his father doesn’t like his mother.

He was the left prime minister of Xi Chu Kingdom. Cunning and smart as hell. The dream man of every unmarried women. Arch enemy of Chen Wang. Their hate for each other turned stronger because of Yun Qian Meng. He’s he first one to win both the martial arts contest and the scholar contest (Zhongyuan). Being the first one so young ever to be prime minister.

Chu Fei Yang was intrigued by Yun Qian Meng’s strong gaze when she begged the emperor to break the engagement. He began to pay more attention to her and before he knows it, she is in his heart. Chu Fei Yang will sneak into Yun Qian Meng’s chamber sometimes just to watch her. At first Yun Qian Meng wanted to avoid him, because she felt like he can see right through her. Then she chooses to trust him. He’s always protecting her, even though she doesn’t need his protection. The scene about him that I like the most is when he declared on a feast that in this lifetime the only wife he will ever take is Yun Qian Meng. That’s a big deal because man as powerful as him has many concubines.

To get what he wants from Yun Qian Meng he’ll get really thick-skinned and doesn’t care about face, making Yun Qian Meng unable to deal with him. This side of him is only reserved for Yun Qian Meng. To others, he’s cold, arrogant and giving his enemies a blow before they even know what had happened.

Chu Nan Shan/old Chu Wang: The funny grandfather of Chu Fei Yang. He’s the comedy relief in this book. He is the one who raised Chu Fei Yang. He liked Yun Qian Meng from the first moment he set eyes on her. He tried many times to get his ungrateful grandson to be together with Yun Qian Meng. He sees his grandson as his nemesis. They bicker in a cute way with cunning Chu Fei Yang winning most of the time. He loves Yun Qian Meng’s cooking. He’s jealous when Chu Fei Yang gets to eat something he thinks is better than the food in front of him. Although he’s funny, on important times, he’ll always stand as a back up for his grandson. When his grandson needed him, he’s always there.

He fought together with the emperor’s grandfather. Half of the kingdom should be his, but he gave up on it. In respect of him the Chu in Xi Chu Kingdom is about him. He’s my favorite character in the book.

Chen Wang/Jiang Mu Chen/7^th prince: He was engaged to Yun Qian Meng since birth. But he always hated it and rejected Yun Qian Meng. Later he regretted it to death. Along with Chu Fei Yang, he’s the most sought man. One more reason why the other girls hate Yun Qian Meng. The throne should’ve been his, but he was too young when his brother took the throne. So he’s always planning to rebel. But Yun Qian Meng let him stray from his plans. His first priority turned in to get her to wed him. One time he even kidnapped Yun Qian Meng and blackmailed her to marry him. Of course, Chu Fei Yang outsmarted him.
He isn’t a hateful person, but also not a likable person.

Rong Yun He: The brother of an imperial consort. He’s a normal citizen, but with a mind to do business. Every business under his care flourished, making his family one of the richest people in the Kingdom. With richest also came unfortunate events. The emperor wants the Rong’s family riches. His sister, the imperial consort is sent to the palace, to keep the family’s heads on their body. His sister is in love with the crown prince of Bei Qi.
He fell in love with Yun Qian Meng but is also doomed to only be her friend. He’ll help Yun Qian Meng when she needed him, causing the wrath of the emperor. The emperor fears that if the Rong family and Chu family join together, the Chu family will be unbeatable. The one who than will suffer is his sister. A sad family with no luck in love. He said that he doesn’t need to be Yun Qian Meng’s lover. He’ll be happy as a friend. If she’s happy, he’ll also be happy for her.

Qu Fei Qing: The first friend of Yun Qian Meng. She’s also Yun Qian Meng’s cousin older by 1 year. At first she was a weak person, but after her father’s illness and being with Yun Qian Meng too much, she turned into a smart lady. She helps Yun Qian Meng when it’s needed. She fell in love with a commoner doctor. A doomed love. She’s the niece of the dowager empress, the lady of Fu Guo Gong Fu, how can she marry a commoner?

Qu Zhang Qing: the cousin of Yun Qian Meng and the big brother of Qu Fei Qing. He’s very protective of his sister and cousin. He always has a stern face and rarely laugh or has any other expression. In short a wooden face. In later chapters he will meet a fun upright girl who can get him mad.
Yu Qian Di: The emperor of the Xi Chu Kingdom. Very cunning and the most hateful character of the book. He killed the crown prince and took the throne. He took many wives to strengthen his power, but he loved none. He wants to get rid of Chen Wang, Chu Fei Yang and Hai Wang, because they are too powerful. I understand why he did some of the things he did, but I can’t live with them. Why took the throne when you have to live like that every day of your life? I think old Chu Wang made a wise choice of giving up the throne.

Hai Wang: He, Chu Wang and the emperor’s grandfather established this kingdom. He’s very powerful. He’s disable and can’t walk. But his mind is still thinking about taking the throne.

Hai Qian Shi: The fifth and most favorite son of Hai Wang. His mother died when he was five from an “accident”. Cunning, handsome and mysterious. Although he has a handsome face, his aura makes all the girls stay at a distance away from him. The only girl he ever sought out is Yun Qian Meng. I really can’t figure him out. Sometimes it seems like he likes Yun Qian Meng, but sometimes he doesn’t. He’s really mysterious to me.

Other siblings fight against each other in private and they still kept a loving front in front of others, but he doesn’t care eabout that. He’ll make his family look bad in front of others with his poisonous tongue.

Hai Tian: Sister of Hai Qian Shi: same father different mother. She hates him. She’s the number one talented beauty, in love with Chu Fei Yang. She’ll do everything to shame Yun Qian Meng. Of course Yun Qian Meng is always a step above her. Later she married the crown prince of Bei Qi to be their crown princess. Both are using the other. She’s plotting revenge against Yun Qian Meng.
Fu Guo Gong Fu is in the hand of the family of the dowager empress. They hold military power and is considered really powerful.
There are many more interesting characters like the crown prince of Bei Qi, but I’ll stop at here.
