Forensic Heroes 4 Review/ Rant

I just finished watching this drama that made my heart ache for the first two ones. This drama is an insult to my capacity of thinking. Not only that, the acting was so bad. TVB is really doomed. My definition of a good drama is that after I finished it, I won’t be able to let go. I will search everything about the drama and make myself go crazy from longing. But with this drama, I hardly remember the cases.

It had been a long time since I watched a TVB drama. The last one being Line Walker which I thought was interesting at the beginning but turned out to be a flop at the end. What made me decide to watch Forensic Heroes 4 is that I truly liked the first two installments. The first case of the first installments is still buried deep in my memories and that was 14 years ago.

The first case of this one was also the best one of the whole series. Michelle Yim is amazing as always. She has screen presence and her acting is on point. The problem with the first case is that it made it look like Michelle is the killer, then, you know she is not. Otherwise, the first case was pretty interesting.

As for the other cases, I only remember that it is always the suspects who admitted very quick to their wrongdoings. I was like, “What the f?” I have never seen suspects so cooperating before. Moreover, most of the cases didn’t even have incriminating evidence. A good lawyer would’ve talked their way out of it. But that wasn’t the worst. The worst insult to my brain is that for whatever reason, the grave of King Sir’s brother-in-law was robbed and they found a recording. My god, the brother-in-law had died for so many years. I’m so surprised that the recording looked so new and surprise, surprise still worked. And then, when Emma came to surrender, she even admitted to the case that was more than a decade ago and the police didn’t even have any evidence that she did it. Why the hell would you also admit to that?! Also, when they wanted to find out Michael’s whereabouts, it was said that he flew to San Francisco. However, when Ko Ching was stabbed, they found out that he wasn’t. Only then, did they got to know that he bought a ticket with a stop in Taiwan. ??? Why didn’t they discover that during the initial investigation? My brain can’t take this anymore.

The cases were also solved very strangely. I know that the technology had advanced very much, but can you really not get the thermo bottle of the suspect and just look for one on the internet to match it with the wound? If it’s like that, the suspect can argue that there are many of such thermos. Why do they conclude that the culprit is him? Unlike the other installments, there is also no more return to the scene to further investigate. Everything happens with an ipad. Aside from that, the cases seemed to have been solved by pure coincidence. It is always solved when the leads saw something and suddenly they know what had happened.

The acting sucked so much. Raymond Wong’s face was wooden throughout the series. No emotions when he found his supposed sister and she had been struck by a car. No emotions when his girlfriend cheated on him. He even helped her find a doctor for the guy and listened to her ranting about her first love. Is this guy a saint? It would’ve been so much better when he turned and a tear rolled out from his eyes. But no, he moved on so fast and continued with his life. It was like he never loved Monique. What didn’t make sense either was when he found his little sister stabbed on the ground and called the police, he didn’t go with her to the hospital but stayed at the crime scene! Until when his sister needed an operation and he had to rush to the hospital. Is this guy made out of wood? If I found my sister lying in a pool of blood, I will be hysterical and not remain calm and collected. I will not leave her side for a moment.

I don’t know if it’s mandatory in TVB these days or not but I feel all the actors are only acting cool and without any emotions or warmth. Everyone is only trying to look cool on cameras. It had been like this since Raymond Lam’s chok days. Some are just reciting their lines, especially King Sir’s sister. I couldn’t stand her scenes. The best acting of this serie was from Michelle Yim, Akina Hong and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Roxanne Tong did pretty well.

This drama also focused too much on personal lives of the characters. If their personal lives was interesting, okay. But the love lines were so forced. No development at all. Ko On and Tsui Yi seemed to have become a couple out of nowhere as was Ko Ching and Fred’s character. King and Queen have no chemistry. Furthermore, I don’t have to see the scene of the kidnapping every episode. I also hated it that after every case, they sat in the apartment, drink red wine, while they condemned the actions of the culprits like they are someone superior. What happened to the every day life things of the first two installments?

I truly hope that there is no fifth installment. When I thought that the third installment was bad enough, a fourth appeared. Furthermore, I have completely given up on TVB.

I rate this serie 1/5 stars.

  • I agree the quality of tvb drama.have drastically went down. Omg thank God I am not the only one who notices that they all keep trying to look cool. On forensic heroes 3, they keep wearing sunglasses everywhere and walking in sync. It was so corny. It felt like they try so hard. I haven't finished the show yet. On the last four episodes, but not in a rush to finish. It is not a binge worthy show. More of a background noise while I cook show.

    • No need to hurry. If you have something better to do, postpone it till you are so bored that you have to watch it :P
