I married an exasperating eunuch Chapter 41 part 3

Chapter 41 Support (3)

Chen Hui silently followed Li Youde, but she didn’t dare to even breathe heavily. To put it bluntly, being able to turn a page was nothing but a guess of her. She really didn’t know whether Li Youde still intended to pursue the matter. She was naturally a bit nervous.

The journey back to Chrysanthemum Yard was too short for Chen Hui. When Li Youde walked to the main room, she hesitated before she also walked over.

Li Youde went back to the main room and went straight to the inner room. The tea and broken teacup had already been cleaned up. Silence surrounded the room.

Chen Hui stood in the outer room for a while and asked in a low voice, “Lord, do you want to rest? Should this Lady Chen retreat first?”

Li Youde’s voice came from the inside and seemed to bring a smile that would make people get goosebumps, “Lady Chen, do you think your matter is over?”

Chen Hui’s heart tightened. What more did he want?! Want her to demonstrate her sincerity by dying? She wouldn’t do that!

“Lord, this Lady Chen was telling the truth. You should already know that,” Chen Hui said cautiously.

“Heh,” A sneer came from the inside.

Chen Hui didn’t dare to speak anymore. What on earth did he want? Why couldn’t he make it clear? Couldn’t they just have a good talk?

“Why don’t you utter a sound? Feeling guilty?” Li Youde asked.

Chen Hui relied on the fact that Li Youde couldn’t see her and made a funny face, but she said in a very stable voice, “It is not feeling guilty. It is just that no matter how this Lady Chen explains, lord wouldn’t believe it. Then, this Lady Chen might as well save the energy.”

“Oh, you got angry with me?” Li Youde said.

“This Lady Chen doesn’t dare.”

Li Youde humphed once, “Come in.”

Chen Hui looked up. Her memory of the room was not very good, but Li Youde let her get in. She had no choice.

She walked in silently. She saw that Li Youde had changed his bedding. He was sitting on the bed and looked at her, “Come here and clean my face.”

Chen Hui paused before she walked over. There were clean water and a cloth towel at the side. She wrung the cloth dry and approached Li Youde. She carefully wiped his face to remove the makeup. The wound of last time on his forehead was not serious. Only a faint scar was left which probably would fade away soon. In contrast, she was hurt longer than him. Although, her hair covered her face usually and the scar couldn’t be seen, but it was still there. It would probably take a long time before it faded away.

Chen Hui tried her best to be free of thoughts. However, Li Youde’s eyes had been on her face and she couldn’t help but think about her tragedy after the same experience. She sighed in her heart. Her whole body was tensed and she didn’t dare to relax.

No one spoke. The atmosphere seemed tense and weird. Chen Hui finally finished wiping Li Youde’s face. Fearing that the atmosphere would slide further into the abyss, she desperately thought of a topic to warm the scene. After a while, she said, “Lord, your skin is so good. It is better than this Lady Chen’s.”

Li Youde cast her a glance but didn’t say anything.

After speaking, Chen Hui got more courageous. When she was washing the towel, she said, “Lord, did anyone tell you that you look very kind?”

She wanted to praise him for being handsome, but she couldn’t ignore her conscience. Moreover, even she didn’t believe this and she would fail her esthetic point of view. She couldn’t even convince herself with something she said, how could she convince another? As for the kindness, she didn’t lie. There would be no harm if there was no comparison. After removing the makeup, Li Youde really looked kinder than before removing the makeup.

“Aside from you, who would dare to talk to me like this?” Li Youde humphed once. “Kind? There really isn’t a word that is truthful.”

Chen Hui quickly said, “Lord, I swear, this Lady Chen is definitely being sincere. If lord smiles more, you will be more friendly and good-looking.” This is also true, but it couldn’t be a sneer. It must a beautiful faint smile…

Li Youde stared at her and suddenly sneered, “Good-looking? This Lady Chen, let me ask you, who is more good-looking between me and your little lover?”

Chen Hui suddenly felt that Li Youde was too insidious. She just said that it was sincere, how could she scorn the facts now? However, if she really said that Wen Jing is good-looking, Li Youde will let her look good!

Seeing that Li Youde became more and more silent with her hesitation, Chen Hui said hurriedly, “Of course, lord is better looking!”

Not waiting for Li Youde to respond to that, Chen Hui added, “Because, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! This Lady Chen is lord’s, lord is the most good-looking in this Lady Chen’s eyes. Even ten Pan An’s can’t compare!”

Li Youde frowned, “Who is Pan An?”

  • Pan An/ Pan Yue is one of the four most handsome men in China.

Chen Hui was dumbstruck. Was there no legend about Pan An in the history of this dynasty? She quickly said, “It’s a man named Pan An of a few hundred years ago that this Lady Chen had read in a book about unofficial history. He was extremely good-looking and every time he went out, people will throw fruits in his carriage. He infatuated women from the age of seven to seventy…”

Li Youde looked at Chen Hui for a while and said, “Lady Chen, to fawn me, you don’t even want your face anymore?”

Chen Hui tried to make her expression as sincere and serious as possible, “Everyone has their own view about who is good-looking or not. This Lady Chen felt that you are good-looking, then you are good-looking.”

“You really have many fallacious reasonings,” Li Youde smiled.

Chen Hui was a bit surprised. Li Youde’s smile didn’t contain any coldness or sarcasm. Coupled with his face that wouldn’t be found if it was thrown in a crowd, he actually was somewhat good-looking…She was unknowingly a prophet!

She didn’t know what he remembered, Li Youde suddenly retrieved his smile. He took a piece of paper out of nowhere, put it in front of Chen Hui and said coldly, “But, I only got to know today that Lady Chen can write poems.”

Chen Hui glanced at the piece of paper. Her scalp was about to explode. This was the letter Wen Jing brought. She threw it away after reading it at that time. Afterwards, she didn’t think about it anymore. She didn’t expect it to be picked up by Li Youde. Was he a sanitation worker? He loves to pick up rubbish so much!

Chen Hui said, “…It’s all nonsense.” That was the level of the original. How could she write poems? She can’t even memorize a few simple ones.

“Read it out aloud,” Li Youde put the letter in front of Chen Hui.

Chen Hui took the paper and didn’t move for a while.

“What? You are willing to write love poems for your lover but doesn’t want to read it out loud for me?” Li Youde’s tone sounded a bit dangerous.

How could Chen Hui tell him that it is the first time that she saw lines of traditional character and that she didn’t know how to pronounce them? After all, this was written by ‘her’!

  • Modern China use the simplified version of Chinese which has fewer strokes. Taiwan and HK still use the traditional way.

Chen Hui lowered her head and said in a low voice, “Lord, what this Lady Chen said before is the truth…This Lady Chen no longer remembers the past with that person”

Li Youde didn’t respond. He indeed believed what Lady Chen said. If what Lady Chen said were lies, then, Wen Jing would’ve been scheming to take the person away the next time they meet, right? Then, there wouldn’t be the havoc of tonight and beat the grass to scare the snake. It was just that when he saw this letter and thought how Lady Chen used to be in love with Wen Jing, he felt very uncomfortable. Since he felt uncomfortable, he wanted to make Lady Chen, the instigator, also uncomfortable.

  • Beat the grass to scare the snake: to inadvertently alert the enemy.

“Don’t remember?” Li Youde sneered. He pointed at the letter and said gloomily, “Look at the tender sentiments in this letter. If your father hasn’t sent you over, you two would’ve probably been happy together. How long has it been for you to say that you don’t remember? Lady Chen, you are truly heartless.”

Chen Hui felt that there probably was no one more difficult to coax in this world than Li Youde. She spoke such nice things and he still made things difficult for her. He was making things so difficult for her, she couldn’t keep suffering it!

Chen Hui raised her head and looked at Li Youde. She spoke as if she was seeking his advice, “Then…is lord wishing for this Lady Chen to be unable to forget the old affection for Wen Jing?” She hesitated for a long while before she said as if she was in a difficult position, “If that is lord’s request, this Lady Chen will listen to lord even if this Lady Chen is unwilling.”

Li Youde, “…”

Li Youde, “Get out!”
