Hua yiniang is the one pregnant. She doesnt have any relationship with the old madam. Old madam just dont like her first son, so shes not happy with the pregnancy.

Sorry for double posting. From what I can understand is since Yu Yiniang the third concubine or one of the concubine of Yun Xuan Zhi therefore it make her being one of the daughter-in-law of the old lady.
Man, at that era is a slut instead of a stud. A main wife is not enough and having so many concubines on top of that are chaotic enough. Yun Xuan Zhi hold a position as Prime Minister and work in the palace has to deal with palace’s politics then come to his home, he still have to deal or face another kind of politics among his female members un his household.

Her whole paternal family is a cesspool of snakes … and to answer your question … no … her zumu doesn’t like her or even her father and the whole household. She only likes her 2nd son and the grandchildren from that son so everything that she did in that household ie … sucking up to YZM is for the advancement of that 2nd son & his offsprings. One would almost think YZM’s father is not her own birth child … although I don’t remember there was any mention that he & the brother are of different mom when I read the book last time. But then again … YZM & her 2 sisters are both birth children of the father and he treats them differently too albeit it’s because he favours one of the wife more.
