Chapter 4 Infiltrate part 2

Chen Hui had the general layout of Li residence in her mind, but after all, there would be a gap between Xiao Tiao’s description and the field. When she walked in the residence with her head down, even if she didn’t bump into anyone, her nerves were tense.

Plum Yard was at the west. Bamboo Pavilion was at the east of Plum Yard. There was a long corridor in between with a small number of flowers and plants. Chrysanthemum Yard was further at the east and Orchid Yard was at the south of Chrysanthemum Yard.

When Chen Hui went to Chrysanthemum Yard, there was a long promenade that separated her and the main house. She walked very cautiously. The moment she saw someone in the front, she would leave the promenade and hide. She trembled the whole way to Chrysanthemum Yard with fear.

Stroking her beating heart, Chen Hui felt that this was more exhilarating than going to a haunted house.

The sky hasn’t darkened yet. There was no one at the entrance of Chrysanthemum Yard.

Chen Hui still remembered what Xiao Tiao told her. She definitely wouldn’t be able to enter the important place such as the study in the front yard. If the goal was there, she feels that she had to give up without even having started. However, Chrysanthemum Yard was different. It was like a common one family house with three rooms and one living room. Normally, no one would lock this yard.

However, there were also some servants who served eunuch Li’s daily necessities at Chrysanthemum Yard. It wasn’t easy to slip inside. Perhaps, she should wait outside?

When Chen Hui was hesitating, two girls dressed like maids walked over. One of them was carrying a food box.

The destination of the two was precisely Chrysanthemum Yard. When they arrived at the entrance of Chrysanthemum Yard, suddenly walked out someone from the entrance that original was empty. That person greeted the two smilingly. They obviously knew each other.

Chen Hui rejoiced and felt fortunate that she didn’t act reckless. Otherwise, she would’ve been caught on spot now.

From afar, she saw the two enter the yard and entered the main room. Chen Hui suddenly ran over to the entrance of the yard. In front of the guard, she pretended to be very exhausted, put her hands on her knees and said, “Cui er, Cui er, has big sister entered?” She had heard the name of one of the girls from afar.

  • Er: term of endearment.

That servant looked at fifteen or sixteen-year-old. After he heard that, he said, “She is inside.”

Only after he had finished speaking did he realize that the girl in front of him was very unfamiliar. He had never seen her before. Just as he was about to inquire, he heard her said while panting, “Big sister Cui er, they have forgotten something. I rushed over to give it to them!”

Having said that, she looked up and smiled at that servant and quickly went inside.

That servant opened and closed his mouth. Looking at how an unfamiliar girl went into the room that big sister Cui er previously went in, he closed his mouth. It was really that Chen Hui’s appearance was too calm and natural. Aside from never having seen her before, she looked like she had known Cui er for a long time. She was probably a newcomer. He thought like that and subconsciously felt that if big sister Cui er didn’t know her, she would’ve screamed by now. Since there was no scream, then she presumably knew her.

But in fact, Chen Hui was so nervous when she gradually approached the main room. When she entered, she found out that the two had their backs facing the door. She quickly glanced around and found no place to hide. She suddenly got an idea and hid behind the opened door.

Cui er and the little maid were replacing the pastry and tea on the table and cleaned the room after finishing.

Chen Hui felt anxious. She had come in, but someone knew that she was inside. She couldn’t stay. Or should she open the window of the room, go out first and then come back in through the wall…

She looked through the gap between the door and the door frame to the entrance of the courtyard. Just when she was hesitating about what to do, she found that the servant who guarded the entrance had been replaced!

Chen Hui decided to take this gamble. When Cui er and the little maid walked to the entrance and chatted a bit with the servant, the two parties parted ways. She also relaxed. The servant who was handed over the shift obviously didn’t know that big sister Cui er “brought” one more person. The original servant had never imagined that big sister Cui er wouldn’t bring the third person out and he also didn’t mention this to the servant who took over his shift. This created an opportunity for Chen Hui.

Chen Hui was finally able to come from behind the door. She avoided the sight of the servant at the entrance of the courtyard, walked to the table and sat beside it. The place where the table was, was a bit deep inside of the room. The servant couldn’t see her. Chen Hui was at ease and her glowing eyes looked at the pastries on the table.

She had seen just now. The old pastries that had been replaced was basically intact. The new ones were fresh and delicious. Thinking about how she couldn’t even eat meat when the pastries in this eunuch’s room were removed without being touched, her heart felt unbalanced. She took out a handkerchief and wrapped two pieces of pastries…If she was unsuccessful this time, she could bring them back for Xiao Tiao to try.

Chen Hui took a piece of pastry and tidied the rest. Then, she squatted behind the table and thought while eating about what she should said to that eunuch when she sees him.

The suicide act from the original owner had definitely hurt the self-esteem of eunuch Li. She must ponder about how to satisfy eunuch Li’s self-esteem. Kneeling on the ground and ask eunuch Li for forgiveness while crying? Sit beside the table and pretend to be in deep thoughts while waiting for eunuch Li and said that she slipped and had not committed suicide? Put on a seductive appearance, seduce eunuch Li and let him forget the past?…Cough, cough, forget the last one. Seducing someone who doesn’t have a lifeblood was simply like throwing flirtatious glances at a blind man. She would probably end with an egg on her face while trying to be clever, right?

After a while, Chen Hui felt that it was too dangerous to stay in the outer room. Chen Hui quietly went to the inner room. There was also no one there. A large bed was against the wall. A gauze curtain hung at the top of the bed, leaving only one side to get on and off the bed.

Chen Hui thought, this eunuch Li truly regarded himself as a little eunuch.

The relatively enclosed space inside made Chen Hui’s sense of security skyrocket. She was a lot more relaxed and couldn’t help from looking around. From her impression, a eunuch who has some status were usually rich. She didn’t know what rank this eunuch Li was, but there were obviously many good things hidden inside this room.

She didn’t dare to mess around and only looked. After a while, her attention fell on a box at the foot of the bed. The box wasn’t locked. It looked quite big. If a servant came in, she might be able to hide inside of it for a while. Before seeing eunuch Li, she couldn’t be caught and be repatriated…

Chen Hui squatted in front of the box and opened it. The light was dim inside the room. She first saw a long strip of white jade. Her eyes couldn’t help from lighting up. So many scepter jades!

…Not scepter jades, these were jade male genitals. Moreover, it was a box full of jade genitals of various shapes and sizes!

  1. Ah, I just found this and now you’re thinking of dropping it. My timing is terrible. As to what you should do, translate what is fun to read. Your time is limited and you do this for free. It’s better to spend your free time doing what you enjoy. That said, thank you for translating this odd duck of a novel. The premise was so strange, it’s why I started reading it.

    1. I also have my regrets for dropping this. It is a very funny and heartwarming book. The premise is a bit slow but it was worth the wait. I will see if I can translate at least one chapter a month till someone else picks it up

  2. I don’t really read historical novels, but I think the premise of this story is very interesting. Regardless of your decision, thank you for translating these couple of chapters.

    1. My thought exactly. And I’m also curious about their relationship dynamic. Like, is it similar to Reborn to love lord qiansui ?
